A number of security experts testified before the House Homeland Security Committee on Wednesday about how the threat of terrorism against the U.S. is changing. Among those who testified at the hearing was Peter Bergen, a journalist and senior fellow at the New America Foundation. According to Bergen, domestic terrorists are increasingly threatening the U.S. As a result, the possibility of suicide attacks launched by Americans cannot be ruled out, Bergen said.

Also testifying at the hearing was Stephen Flynn, the president of the Center for National Policy. Flynn noted that al-Qaida is changing its tactics by increasingly relying on so-called "lone wolf" attacks that are intended to elicit a disproportionate political response that will eventually destroy the U.S. economy. Lawmakers on the House Homeland Security Committee said they agreed with the testimony provided by the experts.

Chairman Bennie G. Thompson (D-Miss.) said the U.S. needs to adapt to the changing threat of terrorism by getting state and local governments more involved in prevention and preparation efforts.
